The Lactibiane clinical study

Proven efficacy on digestive comfort

The Lactibiane 2.5 g clinical trial is the first clinical trial conducted in France on the efficacy of a mixture of probiotics on the symptoms associated with irritable bowel syndrome (functional intestinal disorders either in the form of diarrhoea or loose stools, or constipation or alternating diarrhoea and constipation. Gas, bloating and abdominal pain are also often present).

This trial was conducted from September 2004 to January 2006 and co-ordinated by Pr Marteau, head of the medicine and surgical digestive pathology department at the Lariboisière hospital (Paris), specialist in inflammatory bowel diseases.

The trial demonstrated that patients suffering from irritable bowel syndrome who took one sachet of Lactibiane Reference 2.5 g per day for 4 weeks significantly improved their condition, in relation not only to the abdominal pain but also to the discomfort (constipation, bloating, flatulence, etc) that the syndrome can involve on a day-to-day basis.

The Lactibiane clinical trial, rigorous and controlled methodology :

Clinical trials are subject to strict regulations. In this trial, 100 volunteer subjects (aged over 18 and meeting the Rome II criteria) and identified for their problems of digestive disorders took part.

The trial was a double blind, placebo controlled trial : among the selected patients, 48 took one sachet of Lactibiane 2.5 g daily while 52 took a placebo sachet ; neither of the two groups were aware of the exact composition of the sachets they took. The length of the trial was set at 28 consecutive days.

After each week of treatment through questionnaires the patients evaluated :

- their pain / discomfort score
- their satisfaction in relation to their quality of life
